This homemade version of the popular Starbucks drink is even better than the original. With just a few simple ingredients and a vigorous shake, you can enjoy a creamy, frothy, and perfectly sweetened iced coffee in under 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots espresso (about 2 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 cup oat milk (barista blend recommended)
  • Ice cubes (large cubes preferred)
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso: Pull two shots of espresso (about 2 ounces total). The espresso should be hot to help dissolve the sugar.
  2. Combine espresso and brown sugar in your jar: Add the hot espresso to a mason jar or shaker, then add the packed brown sugar. Give it a quick stir to start dissolving.
  3. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds: Screw the lid on tight and shake hard to aerate the espresso and fully dissolve the brown sugar. Foam should form on top.
  4. Fill your serving glass with ice: Add ice cubes to a tall glass, filling it about three-quarters full.
  5. Pour the shaken espresso over the ice: Carefully pour the espresso mixture over the ice. The foam will settle on top.
  6. Add the oat milk: Slowly pour the oat milk over the back of a spoon into the glass to create distinct layers. Fill nearly to the top.
  7. Stir gently and enjoy: Use a long spoon or straw to gently stir everything together. Take a moment to appreciate the warm caramel color, then enjoy.

Notes

The shaking step is crucial for creating foam and dissolving the sugar. Use hot espresso for best results. For extra foam, add a splash of oat milk to the jar before shaking. Store leftover shaken espresso mixture separately from oat milk for up to 24 hours.
