Cozy Spiderweb Buffalo Chicken Dip: Best Halloween Appetizer

Cozy Spiderweb Buffalo Chicken Dip - featured image

This isn’t just another buffalo chicken dip recipe. This is the one that wins the party without you breaking a sweat. It’s creamy, spicy, and utterly addictive, with a festive spiderweb design that looks way more impressive than the effort it takes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup Frank’s RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese dressing
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cooked chicken (from a rotisserie chicken)
  • 1/2 cup frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar works best)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (for the spiderweb topping)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for the spiderweb topping)
  • 1 black olive, sliced (for the spider decoration)
  • Fritos Scoops, tortilla chips, or celery sticks (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, or microwave for 15-20 seconds on low power.
  3. Shred the chicken using two forks until you have about 1 cup.
  4. Thaw the frozen spinach and squeeze it dry in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Frank’s RedHot sauce, blue cheese dressing, and sour cream. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  6. Fold in the shredded chicken, squeezed-dry spinach, cheddar cheese, and mozzarella cheese until evenly distributed.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a greased oven-safe baking dish (9-inch pie plate or 8×8 square dish) and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until hot and bubbly around the edges.
  9. While the dip bakes, prepare the spiderweb topping: In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup sour cream with 1 tablespoon milk until thin enough to pipe. Transfer to a Ziploc bag and snip off a tiny corner.
  10. Once the dip is out of the oven, let it cool for 2 minutes. Pipe concentric circles of sour cream starting from the center outward (4-5 circles).
  11. Use a toothpick or knife to drag from the center outward through all the circles, creating the web effect. Repeat around the entire dip, spacing the lines evenly.
  12. Place a whole olive slice in the center for the spider’s body. Cut thin strips from another olive slice for 8 legs and arrange them around the body.
  13. Serve immediately with chips, crackers, or veggies.

Notes

Make sure cream cheese is at room temperature to avoid lumps. Don’t overbake or the cheese will separate. For the spiderweb, wipe the toothpick clean between each drag for a cleaner look. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance (add spiderweb after baking). Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
