A quick and creamy microwave mac and cheese made in a mug, perfect for dorm life or late-night cravings. No stove needed, just a microwave and a mug.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Optional: garlic powder, paprika, or mustard powder

Instructions

  1. Add the pasta and water to your mug. Place 1/2 cup elbow macaroni in your mug and pour in 1/2 cup water. Make sure the pasta is fully submerged.
  2. Microwave for 2 minutes on high. Watch it closely to prevent overflow. If it starts to rise, pause the microwave for a few seconds.
  3. Stir and microwave for another 1 to 2 minutes. The pasta should be mostly tender but still slightly firm. Carefully pour off any excess water.
  4. Add the butter and stir until melted completely.
  5. Add the milk and shredded cheese. Stir until the cheese is mostly melted.
  6. Microwave for 30 seconds. Watch carefully to prevent bubbling over.
  7. Stir again and add seasonings. Add a pinch of salt, black pepper, and any optional seasonings. Taste and adjust.
  8. Let it rest for 1 minute before serving.

Notes

For best results, use freshly shredded cheese. Adjust cooking time based on microwave wattage. Let rest for 1 minute before eating to allow sauce to thicken.
