These Easy Honey BBQ Meatball Sliders are the perfect game day appetizer—sweet, smoky, and incredibly easy to make with frozen meatballs and a simple slow cooker sauce. They’re a crowd-pleaser that disappears before kickoff.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs frozen fully cooked meatballs (about 32 meatballs)
  • 1 ½ cups BBQ sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1216 slider buns (King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls or potato rolls)
  • 68 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese, cut in half (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for toasting buns)
  • Pickle slices or coleslaw (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups BBQ sauce, ½ cup honey, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder. Taste and adjust sweetness or tanginess as desired.
  2. Combine in the slow cooker: Place the 2 lbs of frozen meatballs directly into the slow cooker. Pour the sauce over the top and stir gently to coat every meatball.
  3. Cook low and slow: Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours or on HIGH for 1.5-2 hours. Stir once halfway through if possible.
  4. Toast the buns (optional but recommended): About 10 minutes before serving, preheat oven to 350°F. Split the slider buns and place cut-side up on a baking sheet. Brush insides with melted butter. Bake for 5-7 minutes until edges are golden and centers are slightly crisp.
  5. Assemble the sliders: Place a meatball on the bottom half of each bun. If adding cheese, lay a half-slice on top of the hot meatball. Add a pickle slice or coleslaw if desired. Top with the other half of the bun and press down gently.
  6. Serve immediately: Arrange on a platter and serve. For tailgating, keep meatballs warm in the slow cooker and let people assemble their own.

Notes

Don’t thaw the meatballs first; frozen ones hold their shape better. Stir gently with a silicone spatula to avoid breaking them. Toast buns on the grill for a smoky char if tailgating. Double the sauce if you like extra for dipping. Leftover meatballs can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
