Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium sugar pumpkin (about 4–5 inches in diameter, sturdy walls, no cracks)
  • 2 cups green grapes, washed and separated into small clusters
  • 2 cups red grapes, washed and separated into small clusters
  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and sliced into wedges
  • 2 medium pears (Bartlett or Bosc), cored and sliced into wedges
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries, washed and dried
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries, washed and dried
  • 1 medium orange, peeled and separated into segments (optional)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (about 10-12 leaves)
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or 2%)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Wash the outside of the sugar pumpkin thoroughly with warm water and a scrub brush. Pat dry. Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a circle around the top of the pumpkin, about 2 inches from the stem, angling the knife slightly inward. Remove the lid and set aside. Scoop out all seeds and stringy pulp. Rinse the inside with cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Wash all fruit thoroughly. Leave grapes in small clusters of 3-4 grapes each. Core and slice apples and pears into wedges about 1/2 inch thick. Hull and halve strawberries. Leave blueberries and blackberries whole. Peel and separate orange into segments if using.
  3. In a small bowl, combine Greek yogurt, honey, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  4. Place the hollowed pumpkin on a serving platter. Line the platter with parchment paper if desired. Fill the pumpkin with fruit, layering larger items like apple and pear wedges at the bottom, then grapes and berries on top. Let some fruit spill out around the base of the pumpkin.
  5. Place the small bowl of honey yogurt dip inside the pumpkin opening, nestled among the fruit, or set it on the platter next to the pumpkin.
  6. Tuck fresh mint leaves among the fruit. Place the pumpkin lid at an angle next to the pumpkin or on the platter. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Choose a sugar pumpkin for sturdy walls. Refrigerate fruit for at least 30 minutes before assembling. For apple browning, toss slices in 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon water. Make the dip the night before for best flavor. Leftover pumpkin can be roasted.
