A bright and boozy summer punch combining fresh watermelon, mint, bourbon, and lemonade, perfect for crowd-pleasing at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups fresh watermelon, cubed (seedless if possible)
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves, loosely packed
  • 2 cups bourbon (480 ml)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 46 lemons)
  • 1 cup simple syrup (240 ml)
  • 2 cups cold water (480 ml)
  • 4 cups lemonade (960 ml), preferably fresh or high-quality store-bought
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Optional garnishes: lemon slices, extra mint sprigs, watermelon wedges

Instructions

  1. Puree the cubed watermelon in a blender or food processor until smooth, about 30 seconds. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if a smoother punch is desired, yielding about 3 cups (720 ml) of watermelon juice.
  2. In a large punch bowl, add the fresh mint leaves and gently muddle with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon for about 20 seconds to release oils without bitterness.
  3. Pour the fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, cold water, and lemonade into the punch bowl with the muddled mint. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add the bourbon and watermelon juice to the bowl. Stir until well combined and the punch has a bright pink color.
  5. Add plenty of ice cubes just before serving. Garnish with lemon slices, mint sprigs, and watermelon wedges.
  6. Taste the punch and adjust sweetness or strength by adding more simple syrup, lemonade, or water as needed.

Notes

Do not over-muddle the mint to avoid bitterness. Add ice cubes just before serving to keep the punch cold without watering it down quickly. For a non-alcoholic version, omit bourbon and add extra lemonade or sparkling water. Frozen watermelon chunks can be used as ice cubes for added flavor and chill.
