These creepy witch finger pretzel rods are made with pretzel rods, green candy melts, and almond fingernails. They come together in about 15 minutes with no baking required, making them a perfect Halloween treat that both kids and adults love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1215 pretzel rods
  • 1 cup green candy melts
  • 2430 slivered almonds
  • 1 small tube red gel icing
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.
  2. Melt the green candy melts: Pour 1 cup of green candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each interval, until smooth (about 90 seconds total). If too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil.
  3. Dip the pretzel rods: Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other end into the melted candy, submerging about two-thirds of the pretzel. Twist slightly as you pull it out to let excess drip off.
  4. Place the almond fingernail: Immediately press a slivered almond into the coated end of the pretzel, pointed end sticking out slightly. Press gently to secure.
  5. Add the red gel detail: Squeeze a small dot of red gel icing at the base of the almond fingernail to create a ‘bloody cuticle’ effect. Optionally add small drops along the sides for warts or wrinkles.
  6. Create witchy wrinkles (optional): While coating is still wet, use a toothpick or knife tip to gently drag lines along the coated part to create wrinkles.
  7. Set the pretzels: Place the decorated pretzel rod on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels, spacing them about an inch apart. Let set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes, or refrigerate for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Check for set: Coating should be firm and dry to the touch. Once set, gently lift off parchment.

Notes

Work in small batches to prevent candy from thickening. For best results, use candy melts instead of chocolate chips. If candy hardens in bowl, microwave for 10 seconds and stir. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
